So Many Countries, So Many Hospitals

This post was originally from February 16, 2025

You know how blogs that are successful are ones that have niches? Well, I think I have found my niche – getting an inside look at the hospitals in each country. Yes, your presumption is correct – I got sick AGAIN and had to go to the hospital!

I mentioned in some of my last posts that I have had stomach issues, however I did not really elaborate too much. At the beginning of the trip my stomach pains were really bad, so bad that I was doubled over in pain. The symptoms subsided here and there but at the homestay my stomach issues came back with a vengeance, along with extreme body aches.

Stomach issues + non flushing toilet = disaster!!!

By the time we got back to Melang I was a bit of a mess. I was hoping that a night of good sleep would make things better, but it didn’t – imagine that! In the morning there was no time to rest as we had to catch our flight to Bali.

Landing in paradise was a bit of a blur and by the time we reached the hotel I was worse. I couldn’t keep anything down and eventually was dry heaving –  alas this is where the hospital came into play.

I was given an IV with fluids and medication for pain and nausea, as well as had my bloodwork done. The symptoms sounded like dengue fever, but thankfully the timeline didn’t add up and that lovely illness was crossed off the list. Without getting a stool sample, they couldn’t identify what the actual cause was but they gave me a broad range antibiotic which would hopefully that will do the trick.

Liza was a trooper and stayed with me the whole time. She almost ate her arm off because she was so hungry but the vows do say ‘ in sickness and in health’ so she followed it to a T. Liza joked that I didn’t even mention to the doctor about my sprained ankle. Had he taken a look at that too he would have thought I was a real winner! I swear, natural selection – I would be the first to go!

Let’s hope leg 2 of the trip is free from sickness and injury! And here is a photo of Liza in paradise (it can’t be all bad news, right?)
