It has been far too long since my last big travel adventure like this, hasn’t it?! The last big trip was right when the world was shutting down in 2020. As you might know, so much has happened to me since then. I fell in love, got married, went to South Africa twice, had ankle surgery (from my fall in Brazil), waited impatiently for Liza to arrive as a Permanent Resident, toured around Alberta as much as we could, had our wedding ceremony, spent our first Christmas together…and now this…our first overseas trip together.

We both feel very fortunate because when Liza came to Canada she was able to land a job with G Adventures – the very same company that she was a guide for back in Southern Africa. One of the perks of working for G Adventures is Liza gets a stipend per year towards a trip, and I get a massive discount. With that said, we were very excited to start planning our first trip together. There are so many countries to choose from and although Liza keeps telling me that she doesn’t want to go to a place where I have already been, I am happy to go back to some of my favorites. The trip we are about to embark on has a bit of both. In 2013 I was able to travel through Central America. One of the places on that trip that stole my heart was Guatemala. I was not there for long, but I knew that one day I would return. That day has finally come and this time our tour will explore Guatemala as well as Belize and Mexico.

I hope that over the next 3 and a half weeks I can entertain you with our adventures. Let’s cross our fingers that there are no torn ligaments, chipped teeth or any other bodily mishaps. Let the adventure begin!!
